Viability of dairy farming in karnataka
presently govt paying only 17rs /ltr(additional 4 rs will be given occasionally that too not full amount)
theres rumours of MILK HOLIDAY too
do the maths carefully before venturing

i am doing dairy farming as passion not for commercial gains
i started with one cow and now i have six
i am having loss of around 6000/month
dairy farming in Karnataka is commercially viable only if you go for direct marketing--farm to consumer
otherwise expenses >> income
if you consider milk holiday implications(milk holiday is non procurement of milk from co-op society once a week)
so that additional milk will be tried to be sold for direct market instead of wasting it ppl will try to sell for whatever they can get
lots of commercial scale dairies are getting shut in my region(you can do ground survey)
Dairy is only viable in and around Bangalore if you have your own ancectral land, as people in Bangalore will do anything for "organic" brand
but again considering land costs and other running expenses,returns in dairy wont justify investment
A good yield Good breed cows cost a fortune(>Rs70,000)
labor problem eternal :))

and state government is implementing pashu bhagya(free cows for backward classes)
please share your views and strategies

Hello Brothers,
Would like to know where I can get nice HF cows which yields above 20 liters per time in KARNATAKA.
I'm also want to put my hard earned money on dairy farming for the first time. Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Where is NDRI located? Do you please can pass on the address or contact no of this place because i too sail in the same boat to start dairy farming with my hard earned money for the first time in Mysore. I'm also an NRI.
