I have 10 acres of land near Chennai which is loamy. I want to do farming in that land but have no idea as to which crop is suitable for it. Also I want to make it as commercial if this proves to be good.
Please Can anyone help me out?!

Usually vegetables is best for sandy loamy soil. But I need to understand your preference or ideas before commenting further. You can check my blog as well for the crops that grow well in certain soils.

Where exactly is your farm? How much water is available? What is the current status of the farm? What is your current financial position meaning do you need regular income or you can wait for a little bit longer? Are you at the farm 24X7?

All these type of questions and many more will help to decide on the crop as well.

Thank you soo much for your reply.
Can you please give your blog address?!
My farm is near redhills. That farm was previously used for paddy. But I am not interested in doing the same. I want to try something new. I do need regular income but I can even wait for few more months if I could get better outcome. I stay in chennai but can go to farm everyday.

My blog address is in my signature.

You should go for Vegetables as Chennai market is very near to you. I am suggesting Vegetables so that you can get returns in a short time say 6 months itself.
FYI, I stay in Chennai as well.

Thank you so much sir for sparing your time to help me out.
If you don't mind can you suggest what vegetables can I cultivate?!
Also I am planning to go for organic farming but I don't have any knowledge in that. So can you please tell me whom I should contact or is there any training for that?!
If you don't mind me asking what do you cultivate?!

You can check TNAU website (TNAU Agritech Portal :: Home ) for the crops that suit the season. To start with, go for standard crops like Tomato, Onion, Brinjal, Ladies Finger etc which are used daily in cooking. Since you have a large land holding, just start with 1 or 2 acres to begin with and then expand rapidly in the next season.

Read articles related to Organic farming and that is enough to understand. BTW, if you want to learn more and you are okay to spend a little bit money & time for learning organic farming, go to Vanagam for training (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dr-G-Nammalvar-Organic-Agriculturist/197789246939878). Check when is the next batch here.

BTW, as of now I am only a Farming Enthusiast and I help people through different medium like internet, in-person etc. I don't own land currently and in the process of acquiring land.
