What can be done with male calves in dairy farm?

Register
I considered opening a dairy farm. But what deterred me is slaughtering the male calves. I am a Hindu and it is against my religion to sell the male calf to butcher. The dairy breed males are of no use. Can you suggest me some breeds which gives good quantity of milk and the males are also useful.

For Male calves I suggest to use them for ploughing the fields for farmers who can't Afford tractors. You could charge fee for ploughing field and I know if you offer good price it will be a Blooming buisness there are soo many farmers who want this service because field must be ploughed before sowing seed.
Other you could use them for ferrying people, milk, goods etc from one place to another here almost all does this only.
If your male calves good you could Mate them with cows.

Holstein Friesian hails from Holland

Bull is Bull Why it can't plough??
I have seen low quality Buffaloes ploughing fields in Rajasthan, pulling medium carts also for ploughing TWO bulls are used. I agree with above post if you cross breed good one it will be great an venture.
Donating to goshala will also be good idea but why to leave an oppurtunity earn money??When they become very old then donate to Goshala.
By the way in today's time demand for Go-Mutra is very high by pharma companies try out venture there too.
If you have agri venture compost etc also works!

We do not think that it is fair to say that the Mother Cow project is better than others but we do think that it is fair to say that the people at Mother Cow are doing their best. They are certainly taking the right step towards setting a better example to the public of what it means for Vaishnavas to protect cows.

We have corresponded with Nanda Kishore das at Mother Cow and asked him what his program was for bulls and ox. He replied that it was a developing program and that at present they had eighty bulls, that they planned to keep as a bull and the other as an ox.

We asked Nanda Kishore das what he did with the bulls that were born at the goshala over the past few years and he explained that it was dangerous to give or sell them to the village people because they could not be trusted even if they promised to protect the animals. Nanda Kishore das said that when the ox are old or if the villager falls on hard times that they will sell the animal and that means slaughter sooner or later.

Nanda Kishore das said that his goshala had an arrangement with a much larger goshala in Mysore which is financed by the Jain community and that when a bull is born in his goshala that after six months or one year that the bull is transferred to the
Nanda Kishore das said, "When we can afford to purchase more land and expand our facilities that at that time we will be able to keep all of Krishna's bulls that are born in the goshala."

We asked a few other questions about the Mother Cow project and we were very satisfied with the answers that we received. We felt that Nanda Kishore das had a very practical solution to the bull problem that many goshalas face and that he was in fact engaging the Jain community in protecting Krishna's bulls.

Hare Krsna dasi has requested the devotees to read the GBC resolutions on cow protection and then write articles finding fault with the Mother Cow goshala. What is the use of such an agenda that simply attacks the service of another Vaishnava? If you think Mother Cow isn't perfect then why not write Nanda Kishore das or Kanva das and suggest how Mother Cow could be improved.

What seems to be at the root of Hare Krsna dasi's complaint with Mother Cow is that Kanva das has slighted the way that ISKCON treats its devotees as not even being up to the standard of cow treatment at the Mother Cow goshala. That is a separate issue and certainly one that I know nothing about, but as for the Mother Cow project I think that Kanva das got it right, its first class and Shrila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada would be very satisfied with it.

Mother Cow has not attacked anyone, but as always in Kali Yuga Mother Cow is under attack.

FWD :Cow Milk Strategy for India

Sharing an expert's view -

Dear All.
Vibhuti is an excellent product to consider as the first product for a sustainable goshala project.
The next most important project for consideration can be organic compost prepared from cow dung and gomootra. This requires very little production skill and specialized apparatus required. Goshala can get excellent returns and the bonus is that our agriculture becomes organic and free of chemical fertilizers. This will also eliminate need of pesticides .Reduce the farmer's cash expenses. This will improve the community health by supply of pesticides free organic food.
There has been one big difficulty in promoting large scale business of organic compost . The organic compost has an average bulk density of 600 kg per cubic meter. About 40 to 80 tons/acre of organic compost are required
for proper agriculture fertilization. Transport of so much compost poses a deterring expense. In USA farmers have been experimenting with preparing organic compost extract concentrates. Indian traditional preparations of Beejaamrit and Jeewaamrit fall in the same category. It is estimated that only 10 liters/acre of compost extract concentrate should be adequate for agricultural applications.
one liter compost concentrate can be diluted to 100 liters of liquid fertilizer. In USA going price of one liter compost extract is around 30 $ roughly 1500 Rupees. thus organic compost concentrate based fertilizer should cost the farmers around Rs 15000 /acre for organic agriculture. Transport cost of organic compost extract will be nothing compared to solid organic compost transportation costs.
This aspect requires research by our agriculture scientists to establish the viability of this scheme on a practical basis, and arrive at some realistic application and economic figures.

Dear Mr.Rishab,

Please do not use unparliamentary, vulgar & abusive terms. U can't expect all to be kind towards animals. This world is made of all types. U have the choice over the language. Use only good language that will create a positive shift in the heart of others.
Regards

i think we should create a centralized system in every village. in which we can use male calf for various purpose such as choping the fodder for the animal, for pumping the water to the field & all other mechanical work. what i think male calf can be used in producing the power by converting there mechanical energy into kinetic . though its somewhat tedious but i think its economical & eco-friendly & more importantly it will save male calf from helinious act of slaughter.
