Information Profile @ a glance
Turmeric is a rhizome with commercial value due to its properties as a Colorant, Flavoring and Nutraceutical .Contains zingiberene, ar-turmerone, ar-curcumene, sabinene, 1,8-cineol, pinene and beta-sesquiphellandrene.
There are many American, Japanese & world patents on Turmeric pertaining to clinical & culinary uses.
There are two types of turmeric produced in central India. One has solid and dark color and the other long, soft and light color. In ayurvedic system of medicine, therapeutical value of turmeric has been well recognized.
India, Bangladesh, Taiwan and China are the countries producing Turmeric
In India Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, West Bengal and Assam are Turmeric growing states. The major producing centres in Tamil Nadu are Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Salem( Athur, Omaloor and Tiruchengodu) Erode (Bhavani, Gopichettipalayam, Sathyamangalam and Kodumudi), Namakkal and Villupuram
Process : Washing, Boiling, Blanching Cooking, Drying, Polishing, Coloring, Grading, Packing and Storage. Turmeric Oleoresin: Turmeric oleoresin is the organic extract of turmeric, a ground powder from the root of the Curcuma plant, and is added to food items as a spice and coloring agent. Supercritical CO2 extraction and molecular distillation-to extract and separate turmeric is the latest high technology process followed to get quality product.
Essential oil of turmeric is obtained by the steam distillation of dried rhizome powder
Turmeric oleoresin, obtained by solvent extraction of the ground turmeric, is the most commonly produced extract of turmeric and contains both the flavor.
Curcumin, produced by crystallization from the oleoresin, is the pure coloring
principle and predominant color compound of tumeric.
The extraction of oleoresin from turmeric rhizomes using organic solvents produces higher yields, as compared to supercritical CO2 extraction
Quality depends on the pigment (curcumin) content, the organoleptic character, the general appearance, size and physical form of the rhizome
Global production is estimated around 11 -11.5 lakh tonnes. India contributes about 78per cent of the world production and 60
per cent to the total trade.
India is the largest exporter of turmeric with annual exports of around 30,500 MT.
UAE is the major importer of the spice, accounting for around 18% of India’s total export.
The increasing demand for natural products as food additives makes turmeric an ideal produce as a food colorant. Additionally, anti-cancer and antiviral activities of turmeric may also increase its demand from Pharmaceutical industry.

Alcohol From Tapioca Starch Analysis, Process, Patent, Process, Info in Cd

Alcohol From Tapioca Starch Analysis, Process, Patent, Process, Company Profiles, Suppliers Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017

Project at a Glance

Tapioca is a starch extracted from the root of plant species Manihot esculenta.
Tapioca is now cultivated worldwide and has many names, including cassava, bitter-cassava, manioc, "mandioca", "aipim", "macaxeira", "manioca", "boba", "tapioca plant" "yuca".
Cassava starch is produced primarily by the wet milling of fresh cassava roots but in some countries such as Thailand it is produced from dry cassava chips. Starch is the main constituent of cassava. About 25% starch may be obtained from mature, good quality tubers.
Ethanol(Alcohol) is usually made by the fermentation of sugar, cellulose, or converted starch. Ethanol can be produced from maize, cassava, and cellulose. It has uses as food and in the pharmaceutical industry. It is also used as a bio fuel.
A basic ethanol plant that produces ethanol from cassava will wash, peel, grate, and cook the cassava in a jet cooker. It will then ferment, distill, and bottle the ethanol. Besides these equipment a steam boiler, generating set, effluent treatment plant, and an electrical system are needed.
Poor subsistence farmers are the main growers of cassava, and women are largely responsible for the
work of processing it to make tapioca and other products The uses of cassava are expanding, as further processing can produce chips, pellets, flour, alcohol and starch.
In Africa cassava production has more than tripled since 1961 from 33 million tonnes per year to
101 million tonnes.

Algae Diesel Technology, Projects, Investment, Market, Extraction Process..info In cd

Algae Diesel Technology, Projects, Investment, Market, Extraction Process, Raw Materials, Reports, Equipment Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017

Project at a Glance
Algal biodiesel is one of the only avenues available for high-volume re-use of CO2 generated in power plants. It is a technology that marries the potential need for carbon disposal in the electric utility industry with the need for clean-burning alternatives to petroleum in the transportation sector.
The production of algae to harvest oil for biodiesel has not yet been undertaken on a commercial scale, but feasibility studies have been conducted to arrive at the above yield estimate. In addition to its projected high yield, algaculture — unlike crop-based biofuels — does not entail a decrease in food production, since it requires neither farmland nor fresh water.
The big problem has been figuring out how to collect and press the algae, and in the case of open ponds, to prevent contamination by invasive species.
Algal-oil processes into biodiesel as easily as oil derived from land-based crops. The difficulties in efficient biodiesel production from algae lie not in the extraction of the oil, which can be done using methods common to the food-industry such as hexane extraction, but in finding an algal strain with a high lipid content and fast growth rate that isn't too difficult to harvest, and a cost-effective cultivation system that is best suited to that strain.
The ponds in which the algae are cultivated are usually what are called the “raceway ponds”. In these ponds, the algae, water & nutrients circulate around a racetrack. With paddlewheels providing the flow, algae are kept suspended in the water, and are circulated back to the surface on a regular frequency.
In Europe, biodiesel represents 2% of total transportation consumption and is expected to reach 6% by 2010.
According to CEO of a biodiesel company algae could theoretically produce 10,000 gallons of oil per acre, compared with 680 gallons per acre for palm, the current highest-oil-yielding crop
The global market for biodiesel is poised for explosive growth in the next ten years. Although Europe currently represents 90% of global biodiesel consumption and production, the U.S. is now ramping up production at a faster rate than Europe, and Brazil is expected to surpass U.S. and European biodiesel production by the year 2015. It is possible that biodiesel could represent as much as 20% of all on-road diesel used in Brazil, Europe, China and India by the year 2020.

Banana Paper, Paper Making Process, Technology, Company Profiles, Patent info in Cd

Banana Paper, Paper Making Process, Technology, Company Profiles, Patent, Plant, Suppliers Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017

Project @ a Glance

Banana paper is used in two different senses: to refer to a paper made from the bark of the banana tree, mainly used for artistic purposes, or paper made from banana fiber, obtained from an industrialized process, from the stem and the non utilizable fruits. This paper can be either hand-made or made by industrialized machine.
Banana fiber is a natural fiber with high strength, which can be blended easily with cotton fiber or other synthetic fibers to produce blended fabric & textiles. It is mainly used by cottage industry in Southern India at present.
Banana Fiber also finds use in high quality security/ currency paper, packing cloth for agriculture produce, ships towing ropes, wet drilling cables etc.
Philippines and Japan are the countries using banana fiber on large scale for commercial production of variety of textile items.
The Processing steps of banana paper making are: 1.Gathering of Banana Stems, 2.Cutting of Materials, 3.Pulping machine (simple system using only water), 4.Making Paper (hand making method without any paste).
Papyrus’ technology includes the scientific know-how, processes, machinery and equipment necessary to convert banana tree trunk into paper. The technology is unique and fits between the conventional pulp & paper technology and the lumber veneering and custom wood technologies.
A technology turning banana waste into paper is gearing up to go commercial. And it has several distinct market advantages a commercially viable cost structure, superior product and positive environmental benefits. Recycled Paper is made from both virgin tree-fibres and recycled fibres with one exception, and that is 100% post-consumer paper which is made from 100% recycled fibres. Therefore, trees are still cut to make most recycled paper.
Banana papermaking seems to be the only avenue for utilising sustainable resource most appropriately. If all the banana plants were harvested and their fibre extracted from the trunk, around 2.1 lakh tonnes of the fibre would be available per annum, yielding 1.65 lakh tonnes of handmade paper. Bearing in mind that India’s production of handmade was estimated to be a mere 27,000 tonnes in 2002-03, with the main raw material cotton rags.
Though the total cost of manufacturing banana paper is as high as Rs 200 per kg, a manufacturer often has a profit margin of Rs 200-220 per kg, with the handmade paper selling at Rs 400-420 per kg. The paper’s value-added products such as gift wrappers, envelopes and stationery items fetch much higher prices.
There are many Patents on Pulping, Paper making and related fields
Automatic paper production, Semi automatic paper production and cottage level technologies are practiced - needing wide variation in Investment Levels
Project for 3 tons/ month is possible in handmade process
Project with simple machinery to produce about 30 tons/ year of Paper & Boards need an investment of 10 lakhs
Where as 30 tons/ day project might require an investment of 10 crores according to some consultants

Bio-diesel Production, Feasibility, Institutions, Usage Guides, Companies info in CD

Bio-diesel Production, Feasibility, Institutions, Usage Guides, Companies, Consultants, Market Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017
Project Information @ a Glance
Biodiesel can be made from most any plant derived oil. Biodiesel is actually an alcohol ester of vegetable oil such as Mustard Seed Oil , Rapeseed oil ,Canola oil ,Soybean oil, Hydrogenated Soybean oil ,Tallow ,and others
Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend.
It can be used in compression ignition(diesel) engines with no major modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.
Biodiesel is defined as the mono alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from renewable liquid feedstocks, such as vegetable oils and animal fats for use in diesel engines.
The most common biodiesel fuel is made by the transesterfication of soy or rapeseed triacyglycerides with methanol in the presence of a strong base catalyst such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or sodium methoxide.
In general, the standard storage and handling procedures used for petroleum diesel can be used for biodiesel. The fuel should be stored in a clean, dry, dark environment.
Acceptable storage tank materials include aluminum, steel, fluorinated polyethylene, fluorinated polypropylene and teflon. Copper, brass, lead, tin, and zinc should be avoided.
Biodiesel is available anywhere in the U.S. The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) maintains a list of registered fuel suppliers as well as petroleum distributors and retail fueling sites.
One of the largest factors inhibiting the widespread use of biodiesel has been its high price relative to petro-diesel.
Currently, World Energy, the United States’ largest distributor of biodiesel, holding about 75% of the market, adds a $90 shipping fee to each 55-gallon shipment, which means adding $1.63 per gallon additional charge.
In contrast, a 3,000-gallon tanker shipment adds only a shipping cost of $1.10 per gallon, but many individuals and businesses are not equipped to make such large purchases.
The 10 percent obligation for biofuel in the EU by 2020 to be incorporated in total transport fuel is expected to consume production from 15 percent of the utilized agricultural area on the assumption that 30 percent of biofuel production would be from second generation biofuel and 20 percent of the supply would be imported, according to an analysis from the European Commission
Prices on cereals and oilseeds are expected to increase due to the demand for feedstock. The largest price increase is expected for oilseeds, mainly sunflower seed.

Project Information Profile at a Glance

Biogas production by anaerobic digestion is popular for treating biodegradable waste because valuable fuel can be produced while destroying disease-causing pathogens and reducing the volume of disposed waste.
The main factors that influence biogas production are pH (level of acidity) of the feedstock and the temperature. It is well established that a biogas plant works optimally at pH level of 7 or just above (neutral solution) and a temperature of around 35o C.
The methane in biogas combusts more cleanly than coal, and produces more energy with less emissions of carbon dioxide. The harvesting of biogas is an important role of waste management because methane is a greenhouse gas with a greater global warming potential than carbon dioxide.
Biogas technology makes optimal utilization of the valuable natural resource of dung; it provides nearly three times more useful energy that dung directly burnt, and also produces nutrient-rich manure.
Recently, developed countries have been making increasing use of biogas generated from both wastewater and landfill sites or produced by mechanical biological treatment systems for municipal waste.
Biogas plants can be found in countries such as India, China, Philippines, Germany, Austria and Turkey.

Broiler Chicken, Fact sheet, Patent, Suppliers, Market information in CD

Broiler Chicken, Fact sheet, Patent, Suppliers, Market Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017
Project at a Glance

A broiler is a type of chicken raised specifically for meat production.
Modern commercial broilers, typically known as Cornish crosses or Cornish-
Rocks are specially bred for large scale,
efficient meat production and grow much faster than egg or traditional dual purpose breeds.
They are noted for having very fast growth rates, a high feed conversion ratio, and low levels of activity.
Broilers often reach a harvest weight of
4-5 pounds dressed in only five weeks.
They have white feathers and yellowish skin.
This cross is also favorable for meat production because it lacks the typical "hair" which many breeds have that necessitates singeing after plucking.
Both male and female broilers are slaughtered for their meat.
In 2011, approximately 42 billion broilers were produced, 80% of which were produced by four companies: Aviagen, Cobb- Vantress, Hubbard Farms, and Hybro.
A Swedish study by SLU Skara (Swedish farming university) revealed that only 1/3 of studied broiler chickens that were about to be slaughtered were healthy.
Additionally, it is very inactive and as a result is a poor forager, prone to predation, and is generally not suited to small free range homestead flocks.
If the litter in the pen is not properly managed to prevent birds from standing and resting in their feces, painful hock burns and foot ulcerations and blisters can occur.

Cardamom Cultivation, Processing, Patent and Technology, Market information on CD

Cardamom Cultivation, Processing, Patent and Technology, Market
Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017.

Project @ a Glance
• he name cardamom (or cardamon) is used for herbs within two genera of the ginger family Zingiberaceae, namely Elettaria and Amomum.
• Both varieties take the form of a small seedpod, triangular in cross-section and spindle-shaped, with a thin papery outer shell and small black seeds. Elettaria pods are light green in color, while Amomum pods are larger and dark brown.
• Black cardamom is a plant in the family Zingiberaceae. Its seed pods have a strong, smoky, anise-like flavor.
• The pods are used as a spice, in a manner similar to the green Indian cardamom pods, but those have a drastically different flavor.
• Unlike green cardamom, this spice is rarely used in sweet dishes. Its smoky flavor and aroma derive from traditional methods of drying over open flames.
• Cardamom grows best in tropical forests at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1,500 metres above sea level, receiving a well-distributed rainfall of over 1500 mm and a temperature of 10-35 C.
• Cardamom's best growth and development is observed in warm and humid places under the canopy of evergreen forest trees.
• The ideal site is slightly sloping with good drainage. The crop is raised best on well-drained, rich forest loam, and red, deep, good textured
lateritic soils having plenty of humus or leaf-mulch.
• Elettaria cardamomum is used as a spice, a masticatory, and in medicine; it is also sometimes smoked; it is used as a food plant by the larva of the moth Endoclita hosei.
• Amomum is used as a spice and as an ingredient in traditional systems of medicine in China, India, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.
• In the Middle East and Turkey, green cardamom powder is used as a spice for sweet dishes as well as traditional flavouring in coffee and tea. It is also used to some extent in some dish recipes.
• In South Asia green cardamom is often used in traditional Indian sweets and in tea, or chai. Black cardamom is sometimes used in garam masala for curries. Individual seeds are sometimes chewed, in much the same way as chewing-gum.
• India is the largest producer of large cardamom with 54% share in world production, and Sikkim contributes upto 88% of India's production Cardamom is called Elakka in Malayalam, which is the language of Kerala an Indian province that accounts for 70% of Indian cardamom.
• An estimated 4000 tonnes of large cardamom valued at about Rs. 1.60 billion are produced annually in Sikkim alone, which constitutes nearly 80% of total Indian production.

Cold Storage information on CD

Cold Storage Research Report According to the Current year 2016-2017
Project At a Glance
• Freezing is a quick, convenient, and popular way to preserve fruits and vegetables. Freezing is not usually as economical as canning, but it preserves more nutrients in the food if properly done.
• Cold storage of fruits and vegetables was used extensively by our ancestors to keep food after the harvest season.
• There are two process freezing techniques - contact freezing and air blast freezing.
• The cooling process is one of the most important steps in the chain that brings fruits and vegetables from the farm to the table.
• Built-in-place cold storage can be constructed out of wood pole and post, steel and/or concrete block.
The construction cost will depend on labor cost and on the type of materials used for the frame, walls, floor, ceiling and insulation.
• The grower has the following options for cold storage facilities: Built-in-place cold storage, Adapted cold storage, Prefabricated cold storage.
Out of this the smaller capacity storages at Hotels, Restaurants, airports, etc. account for about 2/3rds and 1/3rd for large cold storages ranging from 1000 tons to 10,000 tons of product.
• India is one of the world’s largest producers of fruits and vegetables but nearly 30 percent of this production is lost due to inadequate cold chain facilities.
• With a long coastline of 3650 miles, the Indian marine product
industry is growing rapidly, but large quantities of marine products are wasted because of lack of storage facilities.
• Other food segments like dairy products, and processed meat, also require cold storage
facilities.
• Realizing the urgent need for cold storage facility, the Government of India have accorded high priority for this segment.
• India’s existing food cold storage facilities can accommodate 21.7m tons of produce compared with a requirement for more than 31m tons
A shortfall of 10m tons of cold storage facilities for agriculture produce is holding back Indian food industry including its rapidly developing food processing sector
• The cold storage facilities now available are mostly for a single commodity like potato, orange, apple, grapes, pomegranates, flowers, etc. which results in poor capacity utilization.
• Government Support for cold storage plants are available in the form of subsidies, consultancy services - to help linking farmers to market & to avoid heavy losses & wastes of food products
• Banks usually encourage cold storages where 70% of the capacity is available to farmers for storage on rentals.
• Financial viability of a unit depends upon the intended pattern of use and rental rate prevalent in an area. However, units entirely to be used by the owners are also considered for sanction. Considering 70:30 utilization of the capacity for rentals and own use, a 5000 MT capacity unit is considered
• A large number of cold storages have come up with heavy subsidies, loans and help from the cooperatives and the Government. The old ones have been revamped, generators added to take care of power cuts and the availability of foods by storages / cold storages / CA and MA storages are on the increase.
• Reliable Refrigeration machinery and plants are indigenously manufactured and expertise developed which is also playing a leading role in the export of fruits / vegetables / meat / flowers etc. as well.
• There is big development in the retail sector in India.
• Each Retailer is supposed to have their own cold chains across the country making the cost of organized retailing costly
• Individual business ventures to cater to the retail sector is therefore very promising in the absence of national cold chain of network
