Seminar on Sustainable and Modern Methods in Agriculture
ü The Institute of Simplified Hydroponics www.petbharoproject.co.in is a company based in Bangalore, Karnataka. This Institute has trained more than 500 students from all parts of India since Jan 2009 in the science of Soil-less cultivation/Hydroponics. The aim of this institute is to introduce sustainable agricultural technologies keeping in mind the present environmental conditions to help achieve sustainability and livelihood for all sections of society. ISH is the first company to introduce Hydroponics training in India and is a pioneer in this field. The founder is Lt Cdr (retd) CV Prakash, a retired Indian Naval Officer.
ü In furthering the ongoing efforts to bring sustainable agricultural methods, this Institute will be conducting a Seminar at Bangalore in two phases, viz. 7/8th Dec 2009 and 14/15th Dec 2009. The whole seminar will be conducted by Prof Raanan Katzir, a world renowned and noted agronomist from the State of Israel. Prof Katzir will also be available for consultations.
ü Prof Katzir is an Agronomist and holds a Masters of Science in Agriculture. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel. Prof Katzir has more than forty years of working experience with the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture, in the fields of Agricultural Extension, Plant Protection, National Coordinator of Agricultural Research and Extension, Head of the National Plant Quarantine Office and as Director of International projects in developing countries within the framework of the Israeli Agency for International Cooperation (MASHAV). He is presently the Director of SACOG (Sustainable Agriculture Consulting Group), an Israeli government organization. Prof Katzir has conducted studies in France, South Africa and the United States. He has participated in tens of International conferences around the world. Prof Katzir is an expert in the field of Sustainable Agriculture, focusing on sustainable management of natural resources as soil, water, crops, animal husbandry, climate and human resource with the aim of enhancing agricultural production and food security. Prof Katzir’s approach is a holistic integrated management methodology designed to conserve the natural resources for their future ability to generate food and avoid agro ecological disturbances.

Who will benefit?

ü This seminar will benefit both agriculturists and non agriculturists who have a deep passion to cultivate crops and fresh produce. In addition, this seminar will be useful to scientists, researchers, students, professors etc from the agricultural field and also be useful to governmental departments like Agriculture, Environment and Forests, Water, Rural Development, Urban and Peri-Urban development. However, this seminar will benefit just about anybody who has a passion to change the world for better and they would be able to apply such knowledge gained in their areas of interest. The Israeli experience in Agriculture- Turning Desert into Green is a well known example around the world and having Prof Katzir here in India will be of immense benefit.

Sustainable agri

One of the ways is diversification in agri to make it sustainable. Other components can be economy in input application,especially in the cost of nutrients through legume intercropping/cropping in rotaion and non monitory inputs.
