If the soil is highly alkaline, is there a solution to the problem? Can we grow any crops in them, or no crops will grow? Is there anyway of remedying the alkalinity of the soil? How much would it cost?

A slight alkalinity can be cured sometimes with a little borax and manganese, but be guided at all times by soil tests when using these trace mineral elements.
A better way to acidify soil is with naturally acid organic materials - acid muck from swamps, oak leaves, oak sawdust, or ground up oak bark, cottonseed meal or acid peatmoss. YOu can add gypsum to the soil also but after getting your soil test done, the quantity can be recommended.
You can grow Eucalyptus Clones on alkaline soils also. We have varieties suitable to alkaline and saline soils also which can give a productivity of 10 tones/year/acre.

It will help in identifying crop(s) if the pH is mentioned. Vetver, palmarosa and lemongrass are some of the high pH tolerant aromatic crops which can be grown.
