Dear Forum Members,

I am writing to seek the opinion of members in this forum that have experience and / or have information on installation & lifting of water from deep bore wells through solar powered submersible pumps

I am exploring the potential for installing of a 3 HP equivalent DC submersible pump to lift water from 400 feet depth. Connecting conventional AC pumps through solar power is expensive. I understand that a DC submersible pump requires less wattage / amperes as compared to AC pumps, which will bring down the cost of installation of solar panels to power the submersible pump.

I shall appreciate if any members in this forum could share their experience on usage of solar powered DC submersible pumps, including information on pricing; pump maintenance / spares / servicing; effectiveness of the solar system

Regards,

This is Venugopal from Hyd. Dc submersible pump out put will be very low that from 400ft depth and i will not be suitable fro agri. Now a days 3Hp to 10Hp solar water pumps are available in the market, where you can use the existing AC pump can be used directly with solar panels by using one electronic control. This system is will work very well and you dont have to any changes in existing setup and you can directly connect to your existing pump. Its better you go for such system.

Dear Mr Krishnan
I am basically a photovoltaic engineer working in ISRO. I am also exploring a possible DC immersible pumps for lifting water from well. I have seen in few internet sites showing DC pumps driven by solar panels. Whether DC or AC motor, there shall be the required power(Watts) to do the job. For example, 5HP ac pump can consume 4kVA (approximate)to do the job; a DC pump also requires the same amount of power. The only advantage is, DC pumps efficiency is better than that of AC pump. Of course, you can have 12V pump/24 V pump/42V pumps etc, but with higher current depending upon the pump voltage. If you consider 42V DC motor, it needs around 100A current. Handling 100A current is little difficult. So better one can go for higher voltage(say 100V) with 40A current rating to do the equivalent job of a 5HP motor. Best solution, is have less water outflow with lower current rated motor. Still, it is very costly.

Hello,

Kindly go through the reply to your query on solarized AC pump versus Solar DC Pumps.

We have introduced SOLAR DC SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS to the farming community and have received overwhelming response from the farmers and getting repeat orders. Our pumps are available at half the cost of solarization of the existing 5 hp three phase AC pumps.

These are vertical multi‐stage centrifugal pumps with high efficiency and reliability. The pump motors are made from permanent magnets and are brushless. The pump body is made of high quality Stainless steel and requires minimum maintenance. The pump has long life with less supervision. The water lubricated bearing makes the submersible pump more environment friendly (no oil), easy to install and more reliable. Controller (MPPT) ensures the maximum performance from the solar array at all times and in all weather conditions.

APPLICATIONS
Agriculture – Flood or Drip Irrigation
Dairy Farms
Rural Drinking Water Applications
Commercial Establishments
Educational cum Residential Institutions
Etc.

PUMP RATINGS and CAPACITIES
1 hp, 2 hp and 4 hp DC Submersible Pumps capable of delivering 40000 litres, 70000 litres and 125000 litres in 8 hours.

OPERATING HOURS
Dawn to Dusk, averaging 8 hours/day. Post Dusk, if there is availability of grid power supply, then our power inverter can operate the DC Solar pumping system.
