I will give you a model and from which you will have to write your own project suitable for your crop.

Setup for a ten tonne banana ripening chamber measuring 7 meters x 4.5 meters x 3 meters (LxBxH)

Door: Insulated Door swing type 1.6 mtrs x 2 meters

Bananas in Plastic crates of 20 kgs each.

System:

Chamber:

A 60 mm PUF nsulated airtight room, which can hold the produce, allowing 30 % free volume is required built on an enclosed area with 8 mtrs x 12 meters shaded plinth.

Control panel for controlling

This PLC based panel controls the following parameters:

Temperature

Humidity

Ventilation

Ethylene injection

CO2 display

Temperature:

Different fruits need different temperatures to get optimum ripening, the rough thumb rule is that the temperature for ripening will be the lowest possible temperature the fruit can withstand without injury. Generally all fruit ripening temperatures fall between 15 deg cent. to 26 deg. cent.

Ethylene:

A catalytic Ethylene generator capable of bringing ethylene levels to 200 ppm in closed rooms of 200 cu. meters is provided. This can be optionally controlled from the central PLC (microprocessor) unit. (Inquire about our Popular Trolley Mounted model)

Considered safe and efficient with lowest treatment cost of Rs.100 to Rs.150 per batch of 10 tones of bananas.

OR

Ethylene 5% in Nitrogen Cylinder based

A sensor based controller that controls the PPM of ethylene injected into the chamber as per the required PPM for optimum ripening of the fruits. (immature fruits need more PPM of ethylene then mature ones.)

With very few manufacturers of Ethylene cylinders, maintaining supply in remote areas is difficult.

Treatment cost are much higher ranging from Rs. 600 to Rs. 800 per batch of 10 tonnes of bananas.

Ventilation: Every fruit respires and from time to time air changes are necessary as oxygen levels drop and co2 levels increase. In order to decrease Co2 levels air changes are effected by a specially designed blower, which is used for ventilating and bringing in fresh air.

Ethylene Analyzer

We have developed a Low cost total hydrocarbon analyzer which gives an indication of the Ethylene content in the chamber.

Refrigeration system:

High surface evaporators with medium velocity fans having 4000 CFM to maintain maximum humidity at ripening temperatures.

High humidity 4 Tr CFC free system with oversized heat exchangers to remove heat of respiration using high capacity condensing units.

Humidifier:

A 6 litre per hour adiabatic evaporator with 10 micron water cavitating capacity to maintain 85% plus Relative Humidity.

Ethylene Scrubber (optional)

The ETHYLENE PRO converter is a catalytic reactor that is primarily intended for the indoor elimination of ethylene.

Provides flexibility to operators of BANANA ripening rooms to react on market conditions, both by stretching green storage and by slowing down the ripening phase.

Fruits that can be ripened in the facility are:

Bananas, Mangoes, Sweet limes, Sour lemons, Oranges, Pineapples, Apples, Papayas
