Hello,

I would like to know, What kind of research work one will need to start up a farm. We currently have over 550 hectares of land and will be looking into farming

a) Cassava
b) Plantain
c) Ginger
d) Oil Palm
e) Cocoa

We are new into farming and we will like to know what other type of research work including feasibility studies will be necessary to get before implementing the farm to be as efficient as possible.

thanks.

Hi, consider the following

1. Soil analysis report
2. Water analysis report
3. Soil suitability for the above said crops
4. Source of planting material
5. Market for the produce

I suggest, for plantains, use tissue cultured plant material; for cocoa use hybrids from Kerala Agriculture University

Regarding cassava, visit Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Trivendrum (See their website)

More importantly water requirement for these crops and available water in your farm

For details, revert back to me

Hi friend,

Farming activity go for selection of land and sub divided in to based on the cropping pattern bcz cassava, plantain, ginger are tuber crop, its grow red plus sandysoil,

cocoa, and ginger grown up well under shade condition(50%shade),My opinion every 25 acre subdivided,Go for 3,6,1years, peranial

crop(vegetable, herbal, plantain,&animal science and timber value crop,To create water source like bore/well/pond/river water/rainwater harvesting etc,To selection of

planting material like seed/seedling/Graft/animal breeding etc, To create wind break tree grown periperal area(to aviod wind damage),To collection of farm latest

implement to reduce labour wages,To go for model unit for each cropping pattern for future improvement/reserach,To create own nursery for planting material to aviod

unproductivity seedling/ graft,Most things is water/selection of planting material/labour/monsoon/harvest/marketing more essional things for sucessful farming.

Good luck
