good. you want to test your soil for fertility status.Ist decide which crop you would like to raise, whether cereal, pulse, oil seed fruits or flowers, annual and perennial crop. And sampling requires to be done based on the type of crop grown may be shallow fibrous rooted or deep tap rooted crop.Soil testing is a representative method of knowing fertility status. Now technology has changed and satellite picture shows accurate picture of fertility status in each survey number. However it is best idea to test soil before taking up plantation.
Test for soil type, soil structure, soil color,macro nutrients, micro nutrients, soil organic matter contents in percentage, depth of soil ( soil profile) drainage, water source and its quality and quantity ( water table),method of irrigation followed, surface or flood or drip or sprinkler irrigation . Most important is prevailing climate like average annual rainfall for last 10 years, max and min temperature and relative humidity percentage and predominant vegetation in your surrounding area. These are all the general indicator of success of farming activities more closely associated with soil condition and crop growth.
In sum total fertile soil is the one which is nearly loamy, deep,with good drainage and more particularly organic matter percentage which make soil a real living entities and also has become a current topic of heated discussion all around the world.
