Weed control is one of the most expensive operations in India for crop
production. Majority of Indian farmers use ox and hoe for weeding
which is expensive laborious. With a mini power tiller, in a day about
one hectare of land can be weeded by a single operator.
The engine operated mini power-tiller has been developed for weeding
and interculture in between rows of crops such as for sugarcane,

Weeder machine

This is a good development in agriculture.It will remove/shear the weeds but still the soil will lose the water and fertilisers which is sucked away by weeds leftouts than reserved for plants in farms.
We have an suggestion to develop MULCH LAYING machine which is the new generation machines required for mulching around plants and save labour costs.We are developing these and can give suggestions when contacted in the new generation farming where cost saving is of prime importance with increase in outputs in the same farm area.
This developed MULCH laying machine will lay Mulch fabrics after bedding the soil and make holes for plant seeds.Once seeds have started growing the mulch fabric will protect it from weeds and also conserve water by preventing the evaporation which will increase the costs to the farmers -a)water supply cost b)water pumping to fields.
Mulching process also prevents harmful UV rays from reaching roots of plants and maintains the soil moist throughout the day.
Thus the machine now required will be :
1.Bed the land with minor tilling.
2.Lay drip pipes and also MULCH Fabric on bed set.
3.Punch holes spaced uniformly as required for seeding by farmer.
4.Mulch Fabric laid will be covered by soil in final operation as the machine is pulled by tractor.
For information of all, one farmer is making trials of such machine in final stages on our inputs.More parties are required and this will bring an low labour cost for the farmers.As pointed the machine will save water and also fertilisers which is taken away by weeds.
One additional important note is that if we can have an reroll facility(NOW UNDER DEVELOPMENT) to roll mulch fabric after harvesting (tomatoes/ potatoes etc) then this fabric will be reusable for more than 4 seasons - a cost saving factor for farmers.
This fabric is Polypropylene Black/white /mix woven fabric with UV resistance and available with us and made in Ahmedabad for farmers in India and abroad.
