Agar cultivation-This can be divided a)No fungal infection-Grow the tree upto 5-6 years and harvest wood & sell at Rs50/kg minimum;If you plant 200 trees in 1000 sq metre(1.5X2),you will get minimum 150 trees X 50 kg/tree=7500 kg woodXRs50=Rs375000 equivalent to Rs 2 lakhs minimum b)Artificially fungal infection after 5-6 years and harvest wood after 2 years & sell at Rs200/kg minimum.;If you plant 200 trees in 600 sq metre(1.5X2) land,you will get minimum 150 trees X 50 kg/tree=7500 kg woodXRs200=Rs1500000 equivalent to Rs 8 lakhs minimum
Cost per 200 seedlings including transportation is Rs6000.
If you go for some acres(700 trees per acre) or for contract farming,you can get 75% subsidy on cultivation.Along with agar tree,you can intercrop gloriosa,turmeric etc and after 1.5-2 years,you can use agar trees as support for black pepper,mucuna etc.

I have explained in my postings in this forum that Agar cultivation is highly profitable and Agar grows in any type of soil upto 1000 meters above sea level provided that water is available to the plant.Marketing is not at all problem and once the distiller comes to know about availability of heartwood from atleast 5-6 years old tree with or without fungal attack(I can arrange the insects responsible for fungal attack and I am also trying to get the fungus),he will rush to you.Rate of heartwood per 100 kg without fungal attack is Rs5000 and that with fungal attack is Rs 20000.
First try with 200 seedlings for Rs6000 or so.National Medicinal Plant Board is giving 75% subsidy on cost of cultivation to your bank which is nonrefundable.
Agar is suitable in coastal andhra,coastal west bengal ,coastal orissa,coastal tamilnadu,coastal maharasthra,coastal goa,coastal kerala and coastal karnataka and may be coastal rajasthan & coastal gujrat.What is harm in trying with just 200 plants.
