Hi Rajani, This has been very informative. During the presentation Mr. Pandithurai mentioned that one could use Red Sanders as a host for Sandal, but I am under the impression that red sanders is an engendered species with a ban on felling. Kindly clarify if red sanders can be used for commercial purpose if grown legally. Also request you to please help us understand the legal stand on sandalwood (and red sanders) plantation and felling in northern states.

Red sander wood is banned by the goverment, but the products made by red sander can be exporter in the form of powder, oil, extracts, artifacts etc. The local market value of per kg 400 Rs now for red sandal heart wood. Sandal wood can be sold out through government agencies. Sandal Heart wood ranges from 5000 to 6500 Rs per kg, Sandal sap wood ranges from 1000 to 1200 Rs per Kg.

I hope this helps.
