Dear Santosh,
Thnks for sharing ur knowledge on Olive. Actualy I am from Assam and in my childhood I hv seen lots of olive trees in my village. Now also in our village home we hv an olive tree. The productin of olive is also very high. We use the fruit to make pickles , never thougth of making oil as we don't know the process also. Presently I am in Mumbai and came to know the commercial application of olive. One day for testing I purchased a bottle of olive from Mall at high price for testing and found that the qulity of the olive grown in our area is far far better than the Ittalian olive kept in brine water. So I think there is lot of scope of producing olive in India and we should think for it.
rgds.

Olive found in Assam is Elaeocarpus floribundus

Olive oil is extracted from fruits of Olea europaea family Oleaceae. This is called European olive.Indian olive is Elaeocarpus floribundus family Elaeocarpaceae. This olive is used for making pickles.
There is another plant also called Indian olive which is Nestronia umbellula family Santalaceae. It is a parasitic plant and found in USA.
Dr. Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan,HP has done some works in developing agrotechnology for Olive(Olea europaea).
