Dairy Farm-NTI's
Dairy farm with less than 50 animals is a tabela. The biggest problem in a dairy farming:
1. Labor & Feed: Itcan be reduced by automation & fodder should be grown at the farm. Different types of multi cut fodder have been developed & 0.25 acre land is required to grow fodder for 1 animal. The cycle of multi cut feed is of 3 years. Rain guns can be used for growing the feed thus reducing man power. Theft of milk can be minimized by using milking machines.
2. Cow dung: This can be utilized in a bio-digester (Bio gas plant) & the gas generated can be used for running generators & as fuel. The sludge is used as manure.
3. Waste water from cow shed: This can be diverted to a pond for keeping fishes (aqua culture). Carps & prawns can be stocked in the ponds. The water from the pond can be pumped for irrigation the feed.
4. Disposal of Milk: Demand for milk is more during summer & festival season. For big dairy farms it is advisable to go in for cheese/paneer/maawa production because water can be recovered during the process. The recovered water can be used for feeding the animals.
5. Finance: People going in for Bank Finance have to sign a sale/purchase agreement with some local distributors who pay a lesser price & take advantage of the situation. This is a big loss for the dairy owner.
Considering all the above & the high land price, it is very difficult for new comers to profitably run a dairy farm. It is better if NRIs join together & go in for a big dairy project anywhere in the country.
(The above is only a brief. Many other topics such as breeding, medication shed construction, transportation, building, equipments required, etc. are not covered)
