Hi All!
My name is Anil and I am planning to set up a dairy farming here in the outskirts of Bangalore starting with 5 cows. I have been accumulating data from all sources to help me start the business effectively. I have few queries regarding today's dairy farming techniques and earnings. Please help me with the information so that I can proceed accordingly.

Q. Green Fodder - Field grown fodder v Hydroponic which is better and cheaper?

Q. Which hydroponic fodder is cheap and better, wheat or corn or black pulse(chana)?

Q. Should I start with milking cow(lactating) or Calves or Young cows (ready for lactation)?

Q. What is the current milk price given by Milk Cooperative Societies in Karnataka?

Q. List of dairy farms around Bangalore. To visit and learn on ground.

Better to have naturally grown green fodder. If you have enough water and enough land, this can be done easily and is the best option. You are what you eat applies to animals also. If you feed your animals only chemical food or single fodder, they will also show its results.

Q. Which hydroponic fodder is cheap and better, wheat or corn or black pulse(chana)?
Don't think it is cheaper compared to naturally grown fodder.

Q. Should I start with milking cow(lactating) or Calves or Young cows (ready for lactation)?
Better to start with young cows as lactating cows will be comparatively high cost.

Q. What is the current milk price given by Milk Cooperative Societies in Karnataka?
Just ask the nearest society to your project location.
There is another alternative route for sale: See: www.realmilk.co.in and talk to its CEO, Mr. Srinivas (You can give our reference)

So many are there. Go to the nearest to your place. Also, go and attend a hands on short term training programme at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Regional Station, Adugodi, Hosur Road (near Bosch).

Anil, It's really good for coming up with an idea of Small Scale Dairy farm, where it is undoubtedly a profitable business but only if you were able to manage plan for the labour and feed of the animals effectively.
Firstly, you should not depend completely on hydroponic feed because it doesn't have much fiber which may cause problems in yielding milk and even the animal can't be healthy. So, it is better to feed 8kgs of hydroponic and remaining 9kgs would be formal fodder and thoud.
