we are having total 100 herds in our dairy farm i.e. in arasikere tq.,hassan dq. karnataka-state. Intially, we tried the concentrate feed and now we are developing our own feed to feed the animals.
Our experiences in concentrated feed :
Advantages:
1)easy to serve the animals and procurement as one source.
2)need not to be much preperation except few of nutrition to be add to it.
3)storage and stock roation is very easy based on procurement lots.
Disadvantages:
1) very much unsheduled supplies.
2) Dealer or supplier will start take advantage of dependency once our animals are set to their feeds by un-usual price increases ( the earlier first discount and all others will disappear in course of time.)
3) Variation of quality in batches.
4) Does all R&D of their feeds feed back on our animals.
5) high price input.
6) contents of the product never disclosed by supplier.
7) animals will not be satisfied by the quantity we feed as per their norms.
Based on all concerned persons suggestions, shifted to make our own feed and the results are as below:
Advantages:
1) Input cost will be cheaper compare to the concentrate feed.
2) Realy we can make a real feed what animal needs.(i.e.Nutrition)
3) Animal will be very happy and satisfied.
4) Quality of milk and animal health can be controlled.
Disadvantages:
1)very much difficult in finding the various ingradients genuine suppliers from the market.
2) since all the materials are not available at one place difficult to combine for transport.
3) since the supplier and region varies, demands minimum quantity order to deliver.
4) excerising controle on quality of material n supply is very difficult and we can call it is not possible, since almost all are cash and market purchase.
5) prices, realy hard to negotiate everytime and know about whether we are paying genuinely.
6) Mixing of all items is labourious and monitoring is required to mix all the ingradients properly.
7)Not very good suppliers/producers available locally to supply as combined input as lot/month basis .
When everyone is concern about the quality of milk produced, procurement and very much difficult to increase the rate of milk…..why absolutely there is no controle factors on cattle feeds inputs quality, prices and suppliers.
Infact, this is a major factor expenditure and have very key role on quality of milk as well as cattle.
How can we save anything even after dedication/commitment/hardwork/involvement/understanding of dairy farming but for the major factor , which is not at all in our hands and no support. When this is the fate of professional dairy farmers, what would be the small and a realy farmer who depends on cow.(KMF feed is not liked by many of the farmers, whom we have seen and discussed.)
Realy, all concerns/realy the experienced dairyfarmers who are found the solutions for the genuine suppliers for the same, can able to suggest or give us the leads to solve these problems …?communicate to us
Thanks and regards,
Kasturiraju.
