Hi Kirthi,

Thanks for your response. Can you help me what you mean by "howmuch time will u be able to give ur field?". Since I am new to this kind of medinical plant farming..my question may be very basic. pls excuse.

Also tell me,for doing these type of farming(medinical plant farming) do we need to get approval from any goverment body? or is it something,we can choose some plants and proceed to farming...

I need some consultant who can brief me about the whole process of medicinal plant farming starting from getting approval (if required),choosing right plants for my soil condition, method of farming and lead time for cultivating each plant and who are the buyers for the plants

Dear Muthuvijai2012
please be aware of the so called CONsultants!
If you are interested in farming of medicinal plants, you must first find out who buys your products!
selling raw herbs is a non sense business, excuse me for my words, but value addition helps!
e.g. if you are farming punarnava(boerhavia diffusa) nobody will buy it , but if you will make concentrate of that and then contact ayurvedic medicine manufacturer they will be willing to buy it , if you have highly standardised the concentrate!
As you have ten acres of land and if you will manage it well, i.e .by visualising next ten years you will be a rich man!

Medicinal herbs such as Kalmegh, mucuna , Gymnema, Tulsi Coleus, shatavari are having good demand and value in the market. it needs to be cultivated in the proper season. A person need to work at least for three years to understand better about medicinal plants. One should not expect much revenue from medicinal plants instantly. One has to understand the crop well, maintain seeds or planting materials for the next season. Ready to dedicate time and money. Some crops are perennial. It may take 2-3 years also. Organic cultivation is good. Pestiside residue problems are frequently coming in the herbs used for extraction. Chemical content in the herb is very important when it is used for extraction. Quality and price variations are the major issues in the medicinal herbs. One should understand it better to succeed in this activity. Dr. P. Santhan +919620389349 Senior Botanist
