Hi All,
First of all let me introduce Myself. My name is Ashok and I am working in software industry for the last 4 years. And I getting bored with the daily repetitive work.
From last six months I am giving a thought of doing agriculture and living a self sustained life.

So I would like to have advice and certain things from the person who is doing agriculture:

!. To start with how much acres of land is needed to live a self sustained life without depending on anything else other than agriculture.
2. As I am a beginner in this field where can I gain knowledge so that I can start doing agriculture.

Please let me know if your views on it.

Thanks And Kind Regards,

HI
If you are a beginner please get some training in agriculture before you step into it. YOu can start with 1 acre of land but dont expect to get profit immediately, it takes time and also depends on the crop you choose n other various factors. If you are located in BAngalore thee LAL BAgh gives training , please attend one such.

I am software engineer who took up farming in 2009.

I would suggest you look up dairy instead of agriculture.

Agriculture has the following requirements
1. Rain / Water facility
2. Proper soil
3. Insect and disease control
4. Labour requirement
5. Market understanding and rate fluctuation

In software terms, all the above are variables, nothing is constant.

In dairy, rate is constant. Labour requirement is not much, even you can do the work and have machines for milking etc.
For more milk, they collect milk at doorstep.
Not dependent on rain. Disease control is manageable.

Please understand the finer aspects of any field that you are going to pursue, and also try it our in small scale to get full understanding.

Best of luck.

Hi Mr. Murthy,

Take a look at my postings "Hydroponic Color Capsicum" on this forum. I too belonged to software field but instead of choosing traditional agriculture, I have chosen Hydroponics because it gives me more control on my growing abilities. As someone mentioned above that "software guys are smart" then I agree with him. He also said they never turn up, I agree with that too because traditional agriculture can never make you money. So why bother? Hydroponics can....I am living my dream.
