Dear T. Ramu,Hi concerned !
Of course mango is a right choice.High density and ultra high density plantation require excessive care like training and periodical pruning to maintain canopy size and ensure penetration of good sun light & aeration being very vital for mango flowering and fruit formation.
Moderate dense mango planting is a right choice.Spacing being 10 meter by 5 meter.80 plants per acre in lieu of conventional field population of 40 plants per acre.High density method-5 mtr by 5 mtr-160 plants per acre. Ultra high density planting -5 mtr by 2 mtr-400 plants per acre. Super dense planting-3 mtr by 2 mtr-666 plants per acre.
See when you go for dense planting you are automatically pulled in to executing drip cum fertigation system for feeding mango trees with required level of nutrients thro' water soluble fertilizers. The integrated nutrient management starts right from pit formation before planting where by you need to apply compost, superphosphate, neem cake , VAM fungi , azospirillum, phosphobacteria etc.
Foliar application of nutrients both major and trace elements in moderate ppm level so as to have fruitful impact on mango growth and development.
And Integrated pest management thro' need base application of pesticide , neem oil / neem seed kernal extract /chilli+zinger+garlic extrat etc to control pest and disease .
Spraying of panchakavya / cow urine - it acts both as nutrients medium and pest and disease repellent and source of vitamins and aminoacid ..
or else spray growth promoters like IAA in PPM along with 0.25% urea 25 -30 days before flowering to induce bud sprouting and retention of fruits..
If possible set up Apiary in 4 place among the mango trees so as to facilitate pollination in mango trees and fruit set..It also yield additional income thro' natural honey production..
there are choices of intercrop till the tree covers 75% of open land provided there exist possibilities of good irrigation ...way of gaining additional income thro' hi value high yielding hybrid vegetable crops or pulses like green gram or black gram which not only yield additional income but also improve fertility status of soil thro atmospheric nitrogen fixation and also control weeds..
Further a very option is to apply Humic acid of only quality product mixed thoroughly with well decomposed farmyard manure and applied in pit before planting is taken up and then if interested do apply in trace quantity either thro' drip irrigation system or thro' foliar spray- this is found out to be an extraordinary practice and doing a miracle effect thro' supplementary and complementary role played on mango trees all thro' its various stages of development.
The tree starts flowering profusely after it completes 4 years of initial formative phase of development . however the mango plant put forth flower even 6 months after flowering but we should not allow it to flower by removing all flowers in order to let the mango tree to gain stability and with all vigour to flower only after completion of 4 years from planting.
The first yield starts with nearly around 5 kgs of quality fruit per tree and there after the yield increase gradually and steadily as 10 kgs on 6 th year, 25 kgs on 7 th year, 40- 50 kgs on 9-10 th year and the yield goes on like 80-150 kgs per tree from 12-18 th year..the average no of fruit per tree being 500-600 per tree by around 18-25 th year of mango trees, the peak yielding period of any grafted mango tree. There after the yield will start declining from 25 th year till after 30 th year when the tree yield is uneconomical ...
Per acre yield of moderate dense mango grove with 80 trees population yield around 2000 kgs on 6 th year, 4000 kgs on 9 th year and 8000-12000 kgs during peak period...
The per acre yield of well maintained mango grove will be between Rs.2.5 lac to 3.5 lac based on the yield and market price.
Thanks & Regards,

Dear Yogeshji,Dear Sir,
I have very recently purchased 20 acres land in Chiveli Village, close to Vashishtha River in Chiplun Taluka of Ratnagiri District (Konkan). The land has been purchased for agricultural activities as I am planning to enter in this field. The arial distance from Sea Coast is max. 20 Kms. Could you please suggest me what type of plantation will be suitable in that area. Mango / Cashew / Coconut / Spices / Exotic Vegetables or any other.
Regards,
Yogesh.
