Flowering problem in Stevia

Register
Hi all,

I need your help, I have a little unusual problem in my Stevia farm. I have planted Stevia in Pune district around 6 months back. Since then it has started developing flowers. First of all we thought that first cutting / harvest can solve the problem but it seems flowering intensely after the first harvest. As soon as the plant reaches to the height of around 4-5 inches it develops flowers and the leaf size remains small there after.
Some people suggested the use of Urea or allied nitrogen based fertilizers but then some said that the use of these fertilizers will increase the flowering than to stop it.

Please help in this case.

Dear Sir

Pinching tips should be done every 3-4 weeks for first 1-2 months. This will encourage side branching which will create a bushier plant, that is not spindly. With the last pinching, (about 1-2 months after planting) mulch plants with bark or straw. Harvest entire plant as flower buds appear. whether pinching tips or entire plants. The full harvest will occur in late September or early October. Because it is a member of the “Aster” family, once flowering has begun, not a single normal leaf will be produced. Removing flower heads is not effective. Failure to harvest plants before several flowers have opened, will allow these flowers to impart a bitter/dirty flavor to the leaves.

Flowering comes in cloudy season. When there is good sun light flowering stops and the plant grows to maximum height with full of leaves.

Thank you

Hello,
Thank you very much for your replies. These are really helpful tips and has relieved my tension quite a lot.
I also would like to know whether the use of any fertilizer will add to the performance of the crop?

Thank you,
Omkar

Dear Sir

According to recent findings for good biomass production 105kg of N,23kg P, and 180kg K from soil +fertilizer is needed for roots, shoots, stems and leaves.therefore the application will vary according to the soil type and production environment.

Dear sir,

To add Performance of the crop, You can try Panchagavya, Or amirtha Karaisal. The Organic energy boosters.

Irrigate this to your plants once in a month. these things will supply most of the microbes essential for Good Growth.

This can be also used to the crops treated with Chemical fertilizers.
