1.Date plants require sandy loamy soil ( red soil is good )
2. You need to import the tissue culture date plants ( it cost around 3500 INR / per plant ) you may need 60 plants per acre and the best time to plant is a month before monsoon or a month after monsoon. Last year I planted 200 date plants in 4 acres .
3. Type suitable for Tamil Nadu climate - bhari , Khanizi,Khalsa . I choose Khalsa and Khanizi because bhari is already in the market and has less self life .i liked the taste of Khalsa and If I have to go for more I choose Khalsa because I tasted Khalsa which is grown in Tamil Nadu and it taste like honey. I even started experimenting in planting Khanizi variety in my hill farm , I will know in couple of years.
