Cow mats have evident effect on the prevention of foot and leg problems, arthritis and skin disease. Compared to the cement floor and wooden floor, the rubber mat can help reduce the risk of diseases and slippery surface. Thick, firm, cow mats cushions the "pounding" as cow "drops" the last 10"-12" while lying down. Cows position herself to get up. Cow Mats prevent hock and knee abrasion injuries from concrete floors as cow drops down and pushes itself up. A cow mattress must be used for 4-5 weeks for cows having downer syndrome and other cows with injured hocks and knees to give them time to heal. Old cows will milk longer and get up easier on mattress. Good mats can provide excellent insulation.

Cows will spend most of their time lying on mats, have their feed, free of stress against standing up and pushing forward to eat.
