Have a bannana plantation. Despite planting good quality tissue culture seedlings, find that the growth rate of 50% of the saplings is very poor. I have put drip irrigation and am manuring regularily. The other 50% is doing very well. There does not seem to be any diseases. Could it be possible that the drip pipes are too close to the stem ?

Dear sir,

In yr case it difficult to ans yr question unless we see the plants but may list the problem
1.lack of irrigation. but drip is ideal method of irrigation but it should be directed to root zone.as banana loves irrigation.
2.lack of nutrition.
3.improper maintains s.
4.quality of the plants. as u said it is T.C plants better call those fellow and show if possible cantact near by horticulturist.

As you have said that the plants are Tissue Culture seedlings , there is a possibility of mutation or variation in the seedlings. Call the guys who supplied you with the plants and show them your field . If the variation in growth is in the same field in one portion then lack of nutrients can also be the cause.

Irrigating the banana plants close to the stem should not be a problem as root zone of the banana plant is mostly only two feet. But excess irrigation can cause stem rot or root rot and choke the roots of taking vital nutrients. Water only at regular intervals and let the land dry up before you re-water.
