I am planning to start a goat farm in home town of TN. i hav seen most of the breeders using cross breed like boer -tellacherry or jamunapari -tellacherry are selling it for breeding purpose only.but all local butchers are prefering local country goat.practically is any one seeing someone selling boer or jamunapari meat???what breed to choose???can we breed jamunapari with local country goat to yeild weight and taste. i am intrested in local butcher market. plz help

Presently boer is very costlier as compare to local meat prices.So its not profitable for butchers to buy these goats and sale them in market at very high rates as compare to regular meat prices.So butchers will not buy boer goats at all.You have to sale these goats only for breeding purpose.But the demand for breeding purpose is only 1% as compare to slaughtering purpose demand.Also you can sale boer cross local goats (or other goats),for Eid purpose,as Eid has vast demand for male goats only.
If you are interested in local butcher market,then just survey what local butchers prefers first?They will surely prefer country goats and not the cross goats.As country goats has greater taste of meat than that compare to cross.

Why don't you go for local breed goats of Tamilnadu? The following are the named local breeds and their may be unnamed local breeds as well.
1. Kanni Adu
2. Kodi Adu
3. Salem Karupu
4. Moolai Adu
5. Pallai Adu
Before choosing, check the breed that is preferred by the local butchers and plan accordingly.
