Namaskar,
I’m not a farmer and don’t own ancestral agricultural land ? I’m interested to purchase 3 to 4 acres of fertile agricultural land around Bangalore, build a small house and like to grow different hybrid fruit trees, flowers, herbs, creepers, Ornamental and Medicinal Shrubs, etc. Just longing to own one. Could you please advise regarding (a )Soil conditions required for orchard planning. (b) which fruits will do well. (c) Landscaping (d) Investment for Nursery. (e) Is there anyway I can succeed with this venture, as I have no experience in this field, but have a lot of interest in gardening? What's the best way to go about it? Please help me.

Thanks

Hello Mrs. Pinto,

Once you purchase the land, please get the soil and water analysed. Based on the results , a suitable crop can be suggested. Generally red loamy soil is good for cultivation of most of horticulture crops. Without prior knowledge on gardening it is difficult initially to manage a farm. Please hire a good technical person for a few days and then once you have experince you can manage on your own.

You can buy agriculture land in Karnataka only on below conditions

1.You must belong to farmer family or you must own agriculture land atleast 0.36 acres

OR
You can also get approval from AC/Tehsildar by swearing an affidevit that the land will be used only for agriculture purpose. Rember this is lot of paper work+time and money consuming.

2. You and your family income should be lesser than 2l/annum i.e. you must not be a tax payer.

My suggestion for you is, if you cannot fulfill both above clauses, you can lease the land. The intrest what you get from FD of money equal to buying the property is enough to pay the rent of the leased property.

around Bangalore (towards Doddaballapur side), Jamun, Sapota, Grapes do well.

There is lot of scope for ornamental nursery if have proper marketing.

Before entering please ensure to address labour issues.
