Jitendar,
Ans to Question 1.
You can start cattle farm, but 1 acre is small area and you need further more for decent profits.

Ans to Question-2.
This forum may not help you, but Police can, even you can. You have right to own land and if some one give threat to you, pls lodge complaint in police station near to you and protect yourself.
All the best.

Cattle farm in 1 acre of land

Daer Sir,

You can easily expand up to 100 - 120 cows in 1 acre of land. The greatest Myth in India is that one requires land for cultivation of green forrage also to reap great benefits in dairy farming. Forrage can always be outsourced and it has no impact on profitability of a dairy farm.

Hi Prateek,

I dont think its a myth so much as its a need to keep costs down. Of course you can source it from somewhere but that usually means your input costs are higher ? I know there is an opportunity cost associated with own land being used for fodder cultivation which probably works out to same as buying from elsewhere. However, Dont you agree that despite the opportunity cost, you are in better control over the quality? Also, you are not at someone else' s mercy/fancy. What should happen if your supplier back outs or decides to hike prices?

Regarding myth...

Dear Sir,
Greetings ! Sir, forrage even grown in our farm should be transferred in the books of dairy farm at a "TRANSFER PRICE" either at market prices or at mark up. I never dispute the importance of captive forrage farm but as the number of livestock in the above mentioned case is moderate (1.e. 100 -120), it wont make a significant impact.
I firmly agree with you that captive forrage production is must in case the herd strength is over 300 cattle as reliability of supply becomes a major issue. Also fodder crops are cash crops for the farmers so they are motivated insteadly to grow fodder crops when they realise that there is local consumption / demand.
I again say that an efficient dairy unit is one which generates a minimum ROI of 25%+ even at purchasing fodder at market prices.

Thanks and regards,

Prateek
