I am working on a dairy farm (100 HF cows) business plan. In this regard I have browsed through innumerable web sites on the net and gathered a quite a bit of information about the dairy business. However, there are some missing gaps which I need to fill, which are as follows:
1. Milk yield pattern : lactation period of a HF-cow as understood is around 300 days with a total milk yield of 6000 - 7500 ltrs, which averages 20-25 ltrs per day. But practically the yield pattern per day may not be uniform over the lactation period. Logically, it will be high in the initial months and there onwards will be on a reducing trend as it approaches the end of the lactation. In order to suitably organize uniform production and marketing, this info is very much needed. Can anyone please give the yield trend, with a 5 day average over one lactation period?
2. Ratio of Milking to dry animals: the ratio, as understood from various sources, to maintain uniform milk production, says 70:30, (with lowest of 65:35). What should be the ideal ratio and is it practically achievable?
3. Calf mortality, proportion and first lactation: Average calf mortality rate, average rate of male to female births and the time duration from birth to first lactation.
Thanks in advance.
With best regards.
