Ruminants have unique digestive system. Cattle, buffalo, sheep and goats are ruminants. Their stomach consists of 4 chambers namely, rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum. The digestion of roughage is carried out only in rumen by symbiotic bacteria. The nature and type of bacteria present in the rumen decides the health of the animal. Added digestive enzymes can encourage the growth of normal population of microorganism in the rumen. Better digestion of roughage results in better milk yield.
