Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra is the Principal Scientist (Entomology) from ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha. His interests are remote sensing application in pest management, ecological engineering based pest management and pest forecasting. Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra says managing the risk associated with biotic stresses in crops is integral to any comprehensive strategy for adapting agriculture to a changing climate. National network for pest forecasting, interpretation and dissemination of pest agro-advisories to farmers and other stakeholders is the need of hour. Along with weather forecast, suitable agro-met advisories on pest management in agriculture have shown great potential to help the farmers in decision making process in the face of increasing uncertainty.
In the meeting, Dr. Shyamaranjan Das Mohapatra will talk on the use of remote sensing technology, mobile app in pest identification, monitoring, pest forecasting, decision support system and issue of pest advisories through digital mode to reach the farmers and other stake holders on real-time basis.
