Dr. Shilpa Shree K G is a Scientist at ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research in Pune, Maharashtra. She says growing media is a single substrate or a combination of substrates in which potted plants are grown. It is a very important input in ornamental nursery industry as it influences other cultural practices like frequency of fertilization and watering. Though soil is the most commonly used growing media, there are some difficulties associated with its use. Therefore nowadays soilless growing media are being used widely. There are many substrates that could be used as growing media . During this meeting, Dr. Shilpa Shree K G will be discussing possibilities of using of some industrial and agricultural by-products as growing media.
