Dr. S.J. Ankegowda says tree spices like nutmeg, clove and cinnamon are grown in Western Ghats region of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. They are well suited for intercropping in Arecanut and coconut cropping system. Nutmeg is called twin spice ie it give nut and mace. Unopened bud is called clove. It grown in plantations level in Nagerkohil region of Kanyakumari district. Nutmeg grown at plantation level in Eranakulam District, Polachi etc. Cinnamon can be grown in open land. In Karnataka, nutmeg and clove are grown in Uttar Kannada, Dakshin Kannada, Shimogga district as intercrop in Arecanut plantations.
