Dr. Prasanna Kolar from Bengaluru, Karnataka has done his PhD(Agricultural Economics) at Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur. He says, his study includes soybean, groundnut and rapeseed-mustard crops as major edible oilseeds among leading states of India. Data on area, production and productivity for these oilseeds were collected for the past 23 years. Statistical tools like compound growth rate and cuddy della valle index were used for the analysis of the data. Results showed that area, production of soybean has increased at highly significant growth rates among MP and MH states with low instability in area. Production and productivity of rapeseed-mustard in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh has increased at highly significant growth rates. Area and production of groundnut in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka has declined at highly significant growth rates.
