snny259, read up dairy management first.

Weather-proof shed, a good yard, hygienic care (clean cows/food utensils/water/ sleeping space/and cattle hands), routine maintenance, good feed &fodder, routine medical checkup -- these are the basics.

your main running expenses are food and labour cost.

Depending upon the breed and care, a cow will yield from 2 to 40+ liters of milk per day during most of its lactating period - the extent of the latter, in number of days, varies with the breed and even particular individuals. You will need to feed it 0.5 Kgs of concentrated balanced food per liter of milk produced mixed with a volume of fodder roughage about half the capacity of the cow's rumen.

cost of milk per litre

1. 1 cow will eat green fodder of approx. Rs. 25-30 / day, dry fodder of Rs. 30-35 per day and concentrated feed of Rs. 6-8/litre of milk production (depending upon cost of feed).
2. Plz add labour according to your area. 5-8 cows need one labourer.
May I know in which area you live. May be I can help you if you are near haryana.

I suggest it always better to grow your own fodder to get the maximum profits. The ration is 1Acre of Fodder: 8 Cows

The Manure will however be available from the existing cows for growing the Fodder. Also have a method where all the shed cleaned water will flow to the fodder growing area in a proper channel. Hope the above information will be of some help to you.
