Any hybrid or cross breed (animal or plant) loses its original genetic qualities given by Mother Nature. Humans who created the hybrids and cross breeds because of various reasons including greed for profit, fast profit etc now landed in big problems caused by such hybrids, starting from the so-called green revolution, blue revolution etc in India. It is not merely a matter of profit. Whether you want to do an ethical business or not is the main concern. In the case of hybrids and cross breeds, you will be forced to do unethical practices (even injecting hormones, not allowing the chicken to sleep etc) to assure you proper return on investment. In the case of pure breeds and to a large extent cross bred country chicken, you don't have to do these kind of unethical practices.
The price difference is due to the quality of meat and also the cost of husbandry. Pure breed chicken is slow growing and of low weight per chicken, and it can also be grown at low cost in a natural way. Cross breeds grow faster and per chicken weight will be higher, and it would require additional feeding too, and you can do this in a captive condition with less area whereas pure breed require natural foraging and will require larger area for doing in a large scale.
