Hi All,

Greetings!!!

I'm totally new to the agriculture side, if i loose job then whats next ? i dont have any source of income.Hence following footsteps
of my grandfather i want to enter in the field of farming. To start with i'm planning for coconut farming in 2 acres of land.i know this is being done in very small land.
May be in future, may expand the plan.i have few query's in coconut farming, will be great if i get replied for the raised questions, by the experts here.

1. Is it good thought to start with coconut farming ?
2. In 2 acres of land at maximum, how many coconut trees can i plant.(The land is around Konkan part of Maharashtra)
3. In a year how many 'coconuts per tree' can be yielded ?
4. How is the maintainance of coconut farming, any special requirement apart from soil , like fertilizers.
5. i'm expecting returns after 2 years of plantation, hence please suggest me which breed of coconut is suitable for my requirement.
6. Please suggest if any other things which definitely i'm missing.

Thanks,
Karthik.
Om Sai Ram.

I always suggest people to diversify. Since you have 10 acres of land, you can grow Coconut as one of the crops and identify the crops (about 4-8) depending on the number
of crops you want to diversify. This way you will not have issues when the rates fall in the market.

Please note that you can even grow fodder crops in your coconut as intercrop and this can be used as fodder for the goats, cows etc.

To Mr. Om Sai Ram & all other members at this thread:

Never go for single crop farming-be it coconut or any other, as this is high risk activity. Always go for multi crop farming that can put land to optimum use and assure maximum return from land and on investment, in short term (60-90 days) and long term (from one year onward), with lowest possible investment.

We provide complete consultancy services (from planning project, planting material supply to marketing of products) for High Value Crops-Multi Cultivation Organic System, that can include coconut also as a long term crop.
We have many projects coming up under our consultancy in Konkan area (Guhagar, Ratnagiri, Mahad, Bhiwandi etc) so it will be easy for us to regularly supervise also.
