Operation Report on China’s Sugar Industry, 2009
It has been a foregone conclusion that the yields of Chinese sugar decreased between the extracting seasons of 2008 to 2009. It is predicted that the yields will be decreased 2.3 million tons. The reasons of yield decrease are mainly as follows: first, the impact of snow disasters in the beginning of 2008; second, the dropping rate of fertilizer application because of the increasing price of production goods, such as chemical fertilizer etc; third, excessive rainfall during the growth period; fourth, the successive drought since Oct. 2008. Because of the existence of above factors, it leads to the decrease of sugar’s productive tiller, the falling of yield per mu and the dropping of sugar content. The cane yield per unit decreased at a rate of 20% severely in Guangxi. Sugar content decreased year on year. The cane yield per unit decreased at a rate of 10% in Guangdong.
