Dear all,

Who can inform me on experience and use of Jatropha oil as additive to aviation fuel for jet engines?

There is a particular criticism source - Millenium SynthFuels (TM) system -FAME- that the jatropha fuel will not meet the thermal stability and storage safety issues.

The latest information about Jatropha oil application was found by me in my professional magazine of the IET (Engineering & Technology magazine - The IET), vol 4, issue 11 per 20jun09, page 8 called “Biofuel flight data shows promising results”.
It concerns, in brief, the results from a long haul test flight performed by Air New Zealand on 30 December 2008 in a joint venture with Boeing, Rolls-Royce and Honeywell’s UOP.
The arcraft was a Boeing 747-400 with Rolls-Royce RB211 jet engines of which one was run on a 50-50 blend of Jatropha Oil biofuel and conventional Jet A1 fuel (kerozine base).
The GM of airline operations, Captain David Morgan, and the other partners have produced the report etc. which they will make available to industry bodies evaluating alternative aviation fuels.
This biofuel blend used they say has demonstrated its potential as a drop-in replacement to Jet A1.

Question: Anyone following USA, presently, the US Navy? - Rick Kamin, Navy fuels lead and team Plans Super Hornet Biofuels Flight Test.

Thank you and kind regards,

Johan Schiphorst
