Hi All,

I am from Haryana and I want to start Dairy farming business but since i am an engineer and currently working in IT sector, therefore i would like to know more about dairy farming. I have decided to start this business with around 10-12 Buffaloes and 3-4 cows and to expand it to a huge one like 500-700 in next few years. I have some doubts like i must choose this business and get into it or not.

++ Did some dig in onto this and i know about some well known firms helping with Product solutions (Like "DeLaval") and Breeds like "Murrah" and "Holstein Friesianbut" would be better options to start but would like to know more about :

* Total Cost required to start business and correct way to expand it.
* Proposed land requirements and layout
* Construction required prior expansion of business
* Pros and Cons
* Technical knowledge that is required for business
* About loan etc.

Note:
Currently i don't have a Project report

A helping hand to provide this information is welcome...:rolleyes:
Would be waiting....

Dear Mr. Chauhan,
Greetings for the day!!!
Hope you are doing well.

I must congratulate you first, for taking a small step towards a challenging task.

1- It dosent matter, who you are/what your profession is - to get into the dairy farming. You must have passion, willingness to hardwork and little bit business and operational knowledge of the dairy farm.

2- For gaining real time experiance on field about dairy farming - you can start with 15 Animals.

3- The budget will be for such project is just near about 17.5 Lakh, but profit will be negligible.

4- It is advisable to start with 50 Animals for commenrcialization of dairy farm.

5- The initial budget for such project will be 1.4 Lakh per animal. Lets say - 50 Animal*1.40 Lakh = 70 Lakh INR (Without Land)

6- Land Requirement - 1 Acre will be enough for 100 Animals + for fodder cultivation extra land will require.

7- Correct way to expand dairy farm is batch wise. For Instance, please go through illustration below

Batch 1 - XX Animal - Jan
Batch 2 - (50% of B1) - July
Batch 3 - (Same as batch 2) - Jan
And so on.... at the end of 5th year your first batch will be out and you can maintain 4 times to initial size.

8- As and when needed, you can construct shed of your choice - for good shed 7.5 to 10 Lakh for 50 Animals - 1 Months time frame.

9- Pros and Cons - are subject to market research and feasibility study of the business to enter and said area.

10- One training session of 3-5 days will be enough.

11- Normally profitable projects with capable directors and substancial collateral gets appropiate fundings through banks.

I hope, I have answered your queries. Nevertheless, If not satisfied contact at below mentioned details.

P.S - We can provide you A to Z - Turnkey Services to set up your modern dairy Farm.

Thanks & Regards,

Thank you very much for the brief description and answering to my qeuries in this much detail, however i have few doubts here especially when you mentioned "1.40 lakh per animal"..may i know the milking capacity of a cow or animal with its breed you reffered to, of this cost on daily basis..so that i can know what i am stepping into..

One more thing about which i was always curious is, that we all know every business has its "PROFIT MARGINS"..with its own parameters..
May i know about DAIRY FARMING parameters (that decide profit margins) so as to know can this be turned out into a full time life long business (in terms of sustainability)....

Would be eager to hear back from you ASAP as you have been really helpful..
Thanks in advance...

Dear Mr. Chauhan,

The milking capacity differes on differnt parameters but usually Desi cows - 7-10 LPD and Hybrid - 15-25 LPD.

Profit deciding parameters:-
1- Milk Selling Price
2- Feed and fodder price and availibility
3- Medical expenses
4- All other factors are seems to be same throughout India

For further, Please text your contact details to provided number.

Thanks & Regards,
