Manure left untreated is merely horse feces, but properly composted manure makes for a valuable organic fertilizer. Composting horse manure and adding it to soil improves crop-growing quality and water-bearing capacity. Horse manure contains a healthy balance of phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen. If premixed with bedding material, it also provides carbon matter to facilitate rapid composting. Properly composted horse manure adds micronutrients and organic matter to garden soil and improves soil fertility.
