Your area is famous for onions and this can be developed for production.
Initially water will be required but as your area will have low water supply, yet you can grow by using water conservatiion methods-MULCHING after sowing the seeds in your farms.
For mulching you will have to use woven fabric made from Polypropylene with UV stability of two years.Such fabric is being made by an Ahmedabad party also -Shri Ambica Polymers Pvt Ltd.
The water is conserved and also savings in fertilisers will be shown as when mulched direct sunlight and wind which usually affects the fertilisers and gets blown away is prevented by fabric.
