good crop to cultivate in Coconut tree land

Hi ,

Please let me know what would be the best crop to cultivate in between coconut tree(THENNAI THOPPU in tamil).

My land is at Erode,Tamilnadu.

Please segragte in terms of short term/Long term crop

Please advice the crop which will give good return with less man power

Intercrop in cocnut farm

You may try pepper wine. Find out the suitable variety for your climate. Some farmers in Peravoorani (Near Pattukottai) have successfully cultivater pepper in their coconut farms. If you cultivate pepper, you cannot climb coconut tree to pluck coconuts. You need alternate arrangement.

You can also try coca plant in between two coconut tress. Cadburys gives know how, seedling etc. But your coconut tree must be atleast 6 years old to provide enough shade for coca plants. This would be a profitable venture, if your soil is suitable.
