Hi my name is kabilan..i'm from tamilnadu. I have completed my BE Mech and working as a QC Engg in Atomic Power station. I got married and now i have to shift my self to Erode as my wife is working in SBI.so i planned of duin some Business and my Little bro and my father gave me an idea of duin Dairy farm.I have little experience in dis field as my grandma and grandpa have 5 cattle and i visit there some time and look after those cattle. Now my QUESTION is that "CAN I" do this?????As i have choosed this is because of heavy power failure i cant start any other buss and i too interested in dairy farm.

i have come across this web site last week and i have learnt a lot lot info...thanks to this web site and u all guys..especially to Mr.Muralikrishnan.Mallikarjun and soo on as i have not copied some of their names..

still i have some doubts..

1.can i start with 3 cows initially? and can i get a loan for this and for following things?
2.going with indian breed or some like swiss,HF, Jersey.
3.if indian then what?and the swiss or HF or Jersey?
4.Hf has less immunity-think so,then Jersy will be better than that, but in harayana they have been discontinued this breed for what reason?
5.have 7 acer of less water facility and 2 acer of medium water facility.what fodder will be best in this condition to grow.?
6.is the following fodder is possible to grow in drip irrigation-napier,guinea grass, soundal tree and drum stick, melia DUBAI tree, kudirai masala, fodder maize?throughout the year.
7.because of labour shortage i vl manage to look after by my self and i dono miking..so can i go for milking machine?
8.what will be the water requirement for 3 cows initially and max upto 15 cows in future?
AND IF ANYONE CAN OFFER ME A VISIT TO YOUR FARM IN TAMLNADU WILL BE A GREAT GREAT HELP TO ME. gkabillan at gmail is my mailbox
Many people are saying that it is difficult to survive in this field and make me little nervous and afraid of duing this...is it true and for what reason they say this?
And finally what will be my investment for this and what will be my profit annually for the same 3 cattle?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

MY DOUBTS ARE TO BE CONTINUED,,,,

Hello Kaliban,

Nice to know that you would like start Diary farm business. I feel that you have chosen correct one.

I am also planning to set up diary farm in my paddy field near Rajamundry,Andhrapradesh. I feel that there would be no loss in this business and also, the investment would be less compared to other business.

Regarding cattle, I suggest to have only pure indian breed buffaloes and cows as they have high resistance power to various diseases when compared HF and other cross breeds.

Further, It is possibe to earn good profits on this business, if we can do it with care. Also, the milk is consumable product which is widely used in our daily lives.

I wish you good luck

Regards,
satya

1.can i start with 3 cows initially? and can i get a loan for this and for following things?
You can start with 3 to get experince. There will be minimum profit
2.going with indian breed or some like swiss,HF, Jersey.
with India breed ONLY you can make a social work not business
3.if indian then what?and the swiss or HF or Jersey?
HF is known for Yeild. Jersey is known for Quality of milk.
4.Hf has less immunity-think so,then Jersy will be better than that, but in harayana they have been discontinued this breed for what reason?

Mixture of HF and Jersey is good option(few animals Jersey and Few HF)
5.have 7 acer of less water facility and 2 acer of medium water facility.what fodder will be best in this condition to grow.?

1 acre =5 to 8 Animals

6.is the following fodder is possible to grow in drip irrigation-napier,guinea grass, soundal tree and drum stick, melia DUBAI tree, kudirai masala, fodder maize?throughout the year.

For Napier Sprinkler or Raingun is good.

7.because of labour shortage i vl manage to look after by my self and i dono miking..so can i go for milking machine?

It is not that difficult to milk animals using machine. You can use pressure gun to clean cow barn

8.what will be the water requirement for 3 cows initially and max upto 15 cows in future?

If you have slightest doubt on water source dont select that land.

Many people have quit dairying because thier bore wells dried out.

AND IF ANYONE CAN OFFER ME A VISIT TO YOUR FARM IN TAMLNADU WILL BE A GREAT GREAT HELP TO ME. gkabillan at gmail is my mailbox

For HF you will have to spend 45K to 60K. Depending on Yeild.
Animals with 2nd or 3rd Calving are best. You need a doctor or expericned person to check the age of the animal.

You will be cheated most of the time. you must be lucky to get a good animal.
once you buy animal evry year you can double the animals.

You have to use female ebrio to get always female calf.

As thum rule 1l budget needed per animal to set up a dairy.

before doing plan for green fodder. If you dont plan you will spend more money on buying from outside.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
